Today when KODAVAS remember FAMILY HOCKEY FEST, THE FIRST CLAN, WHICH WILL COME TO OUR MIND IS KUNDYOLANDA, BECAUSE WE WERE THE VERY FIRST CLAN TO ATTEMPT AND SET THE GUINESS WORLD RECORD MAKING OUR COMMUNITY WORLD FAMOUS.Legacy and Yore has it that there isn’t a Kodava child who hasn’t weilded a HOCKEY STICK. Now this same legacy shall continue and KODAVAS shall forever remember KUNDYOLANDAS FOR PUTTING KODAVA FAMILY HOCKEY ON TO GLOBAL ARENA.

HOCKEY, ARMY AND COFFEE are in the DNA OF KODAVAS. When Pandanda Kuttani envisaged this KODAVA FAMILY HOCKEY TOURNAMENT 24 years ago, little did he realise that one day his DREAM OF BRINGING KODAVA FAMILIES NUMBERING ABOUT 1000 CLANS, could in 2024 Reach 360 strong and also enter the GUINESS BOOK OF RECORDS AS THE LARGEST FIELD HOCKEY TOURNAMENT IN THE WORLD.

KHC the 24th edition of Kodava family Hockey, what makes this tournament very unique is that this edition has succeeded in getting 360 KODAVA CLANS/FAMILIES to officially register and participate for the KHC TROPHY.Not a small feat for a very small CLAN / FAMILY, KUNDYOLANDA from a small nondescript village KOLAKERI near NAPOKLU, KODAGU, with hardly 103 members. Now families like KUNDYOLANDA have given the much required boost to the game of hockey.

This years KHC has seen many social outreach programs being organised by the KUNDYOLANDA FAMILY. With a rich history spanning 24 years, this carnival has become a symbol of unity, sportsmanship, and celebration. The collateral benefits accruing for KODAVA COMMUNITY transcends beyond the game of Hockey and one of the major benefit accrual is that it has connected and brought families together who for years have remained aloof.

LARGEST FIELD HOCKEY TOURNAMENT

The Kundyolanda family is filled with pride as we prepare to host the 24th edition of the Kodava Hockey Festival at General Thimayya Stadium, Napoklu, Kodagu. Our journey, originating from our ancestral home, has now reached remarkable heights as we aim for recognition from the Guinness World Records at their London headquarters.

It’s ingrained in the legacy and traditions that there isn’t a Kodava child who hasn’t held a hockey stick. Hockey, army, and coffee run deep in the veins of Kodavas. When Pandanda Kuttani envisioned the Kodava Family Hockey Tournament 24 years ago, he could scarcely imagine that his dream of bringing together Kodava families numbering about 1000 clans would one day grow to 360 strong and earn a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest field hockey tournament in the world.

Regarding the 24th edition of the Kodava Family Hockey Tournament organized by KHC, what sets this tournament apart is its ability to bring together 360 Kodava clans/families to compete for the KHC Trophy.

Not a small feat for a very small clan/family, Kundyolanda, from a small nondescript village, Kolakeri near Napoklu, Kodagu, with hardly 103 members. Now families like Kundyolanda have given the much-required boost to the game of hockey which Kodavas love and also ensured that there is a constant queue to host the Kodava Hockey Tournament by other families too, so much so that it’s booked for years till 2030. That’s the passion that hockey brings in Kodavas.

This years KHC has seen many social outreach programs being organised by the KUNDYOLANDA FAMILY.

  1. First and foremost is the traditional Baalopaat training workshop for Kodava children, which is being conducted daily for an hour in the evening.
  2. On 20th April, a career guidance workshop was organized for the benefit of youth with many reputed speakers guiding the youth in various career options available.
  3. On 21st April, there was a free health camp for villages surrounding the Hockey Grounds. Other than top doctors participating in the camp, free blood tests, ECG, X-ray, and other facilities were organized, and nearly about 200 patients attended.
  4. Matrimonial session where more than 150 prospective girls and boys registered.
  5. National and international hockey players get together being organized by KHC, on the semis final day.
  6. Family marathon 2.5 x 4 km (10 km) relay run, a unique run among Kodava clans from Kakkabe to Gen Thimaiah grounds, Napoklu.
  7. Umpires workshop done by the KHC family for the first time to encourage youngsters to take up field umpiring.
  8. Moustache and long hair competition in traditional Kodava attire to be held on 27th April.
